Hello again fair readers. This weeks show is a blast from the past so to speak. I felt like playing a lot of old favorites tonight. To be quite honest....this weeks show felt a little weird as it happened. I did record the show, and when I listened to it at home later.....I thought it was really nice. Time for some: Music For Listeners 05/12/01 1)Weezer-"Hash Pipe" From the new CD 'The Green Album'. Coming out Tuesday May 15. 2)Ride-"Leave Them All Behind" From the CD 'Going Blank Again'. 3)The Boo Radleys-"Monument For A Dead Century" From the CD 'Kingsize'. 4)Jellyfish-"Hush" & "Joining A Fan Club" From the CD 'Spilt Milk'. 5)Adorable-"Homeboy" From the CD 'Against Perfection'. 6)Luna-"Chinatown (Live)" From the CD 'Live'. 7)Ben Folds Five-"Video (Live)" B-side from the one of three UK CD singles for "Underground". One of the singles is just album tracks, so watch out if you find one. 8)Orbital-"Halcyon (Live From Glastonbury)" From the second CD of the second pressing of limited edition versions of 'In Sides'. The first pressing has totally different songs on the second CD. 9)Blue Man Group-"Opening Mandlebrot" From the CD 'Audio'. 10)Chomsky-"Rollers" (Demo for "Holy Rollers") From the old Chomsky website. Album version to be released on the new CD 'Onward Quirky Solders'. 11)Grandaddy-"Hand Crank Transmitter" From the 'Signal To Snow Ratio E.P.' 12)The Wedding Present-"Silver Shorts" From the CD 'Hit Parade One'. Also found on the 3rd of 12 monthly 7" singles that the Wedding Present put out in 92'. 13)Madness-"The Prince" From the vinyl LP 'One Step Beyond'. 14)The Charlatans-"Time For Livin'" From the HELP compilation. Tons of rare rare stuff on this compilation, and I always see it cheap. The tracks are not listed on the CD at all, so nobody knows the gems hidden on this benefit album for WARCHILD. Exclusive tracks from Massive Attack, Radiohead, and Oasis with JOHNNY DEPP?......even a KLF off shoot. Many others....so if you find one cheap...pick it up. 15)The Police-"Walking In Your Footsteps" From the vinyl LP 'Synchronicity'. A vinyl copy of this album sounds amazing, almost as good as the 14 K gold CD press. 16)(The) Verve-"Lord I Guess I'll Never Know" B-side found on both the U.S. and U.K. versions of the "Bitter Sweet Symphony" single. 17)Ibrahim Ferrer-"Marieta" From the CD 'The Buena Social Club Presents: Ibrahim Ferrer' Produced by Ry Cooder. 18)Morrissey-"Michael's Bones" From the CD single for "The Last Of The Famous International Playboys". Great stuff. 19)The Shamen-"Evil Is Even (Full length)" From the Globus International CD version of 'En Tact'. The U.S. version is an edit. If you bought the U.S version of the CD.....for the most part, you were robbed. Contact me if you were one of those that were robbed. Maybe I could hook you up. :o) 20)Fleetwood Mac-"Black Magic Woman" Played from their 4 CD box set (circus music: inside joke) 'The Chain'. BTW It's a Mac original, Santana didn't write it, in case you didn't know. I like the Santana version, but the original with "The Green God" is much much hotter!!!! 21)Kate Bush-"Suspended In Gaffa" From the vinyl LP 'The Dreaming'. (sarcastic) I don't think Tori Amos listened to too much Kate Bush. :o) 22)Spiritualized-"I Want You (Single Version)" From the double A-side CD single for "Run/I Want You". 23)Swervedriver-"Behind The Scenes Of The Sounds And The Times" From the vinyl LP '99th Dream'. 24)The 3 A.M. Recording. Tonight's CD is one of those albums where yet again.....every song is a classic. Originally released in 1977 and produced by Nick Lowe. Re-released in 1993 on CD with 9 extra songs on the mighty Rykodisc label. I first heard the vinyl LP back in 1983. My dad's roommate at the time, a slightly younger man was into strange music that I had not heard before. Doug was his name, and early in our relationship, he may have given me a hard time. It turns out that he's not a bad guy after all, and I have to give him props for playing tonight's recording for me. I also have to thank him for first playing an entire Police album for me. This being during their "cult" years before the huge "Every Breath You Take". Outlandos d'Amour' still is one of my favorites!! (Hey.....maybe that could be played soon as well. :o)) Tonight, I'm playing just the original album tracks from the remastered CD release. 13 songs of pure pop bliss. Not bad for a debut, and before the invention of The Attractions!!! Elvis Costello-'My Aim Is True'. Elvis IS king!!! "But when they told me about their side of the bargain, that's when I knew that I could not refuse. And I won't get any older now that angels wanna wear my red shoes." Peace and hugs, Michael R.I.P. I just found out that my favorite author, Douglas Adams died of a heart attack Friday afternoon in Santa Barbara, California. He was only 49 years of age. He will be missed. Now the "Hitchhikers Guide" must be made into a movie like everyone has been threatening. If you haven't seen it....track down a double VHS copy of the U.K. television version. It's some of the greatest television. (The single tape version is recorded in SLP mode and is missing some scenes.) Next week.....as a tribute. Part one of the complete CD version of "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" Read by the author himself. Part Two will be the following week. It's almost 5 hours long. There will be no 3 A.M. Recording either week. I've had this CD for a couple of years. I've listened to it in pieces, but I've never just sat through it. Join me. "So long and thanks for all the fish." Douglas Adams 1952-2001
