Another Dallas band. I saw them with Chomsky two years ago. Great stuff full of catchy hooks. 15)The Wedding Present-"Lovenest" From the CD 'Seamonsters'. Machine gun drums...produced by Steve Albini....who is working with the Breeders on their new album coming out early next year. 16)R.E.M.-"Burning Down" From the vinyl LP 'Dead Letter Office'. A lot of things happened in that month in particular that changed the way I thought about a lot of things. I first saw my present all time favorite movie "Wings of Desire" in that month. I also realized that I wanted to make ambient music at that time, mainly because I also became a big fan of one of my favorite bands in that month. Jeff Smith was already a big Orb fan. Since he was working at Hogwild at the time, he had tonight's recording the week that it came out on import. The Friday night of that week, I walked into what was to be (when I moved in with Ross and Jeff a year later), my room and first heard "Towers of Dub". "What is that?", I said. It sounds so thick, and wow it's trippy as hell". This was the first time that I realized that I was listening to the Orb. Which now is one of the biggest musical influences in my life ever. (I've always been a big Pink Floyd fan, and the Orb are basically Pink Floyd with beats.) To Jeff's dismay, I took about 70 minutes of his time the next day to tape his $24 CD, for free. I then listened to the tape over and over until and it later became my favorite album of 1992. The U.S. version of the album came out on Election Day and I remember finding out that Bill Clinton was the new President the minute I walked in the door from buying it. Again, to Jeff's dismay, it had extra songs that the import didn't have. I'm glad I waited. If I would have never heard this album, my life would be so different now. I, for sure would have never met my good friend Sarah, her sister Jean, and their wonderful family. I would have never been moved by some of the best music that my ears have ever experienced. Ambient music was born for me in that month, almost 15 years after Brian Eno coined the phrase, "Ambient". Tonight's recording is gratefully dedicated to my friend Jeff Smith. I might have heard the Orb some other time, because they are that good, but I wouldn't have heard them then. There are loads of musical items that I introduced to him, but I deeply thank him for playing the Orb for me first. Tonight, in it's entirety, here is one of the best albums ever made, 'U.F. Orb', by The Orb. This album also goes out to the Orbgirl.........for being just that. :o) "These things keep popping up don't they....the camera's pan up to the audience, and we're on TV. We're actually on TV, and I'm waving and waving. I'm on TV, and it's just great!" Thanks for it all!!! Peace and hugs, Michael This one was recorded and is available.
