Hello there.... Michael here...almost two weeks late with the playlist. Again this week, there is two for the price of one. I've been so freakin' busy that I thought I had sent out the playlist for this date. Looking back through my records, I am mistaken...oh well. Music For Listeners 09/08/01 1)The Smiths-"The Queen In Dead" From the CD 'The Queen Is Dead'. 2)The Wedding Present-"The Queen of Outer Space" From the CD 'Hit Parade 2'. 3)Blake Babies-"Out There" From the CD 'Sunburn'. 4)The Blue Man Group-"Rods and Cones" From the CD 'Audio'. 5)James-"Ring The Bells (Live)" From the Greenpeace benefit CD 'Alternative NRG'. Would you agree Verve fans? 17)Chomsky-"Straight Razor" & "Inside" From the brand new CD 'Onward Quirky Solders'. Your weekly dose of my new favorite band. This album is super-cool. 18)Fleetwood Mac-"Albatross" From the vinyl LP 'The Vintage Years'. Found on many many Fleetwood Mac releases including their boxed-set. Their first #1 hit!!! 19)Pink Floyd-"Grandchester Meadows" From the CD 'Ummagumma'. 20)Banco de Gaia-"Kincajou" From the CD 'Last Train to Lhasa'. 21)Thievery Corporation-"The Oscillator" From the vinyl LP 'Sounds From the Thievery Hi-Fi'. 22)The Buena Vista Social Club-"Chan Chan" From the CD soundtrack to the film "The Buena Vista Social Club" 23)"The 3 A.M. Recording" The organ sound of the late 60's is a beautiful as far as I'm concerned. The organ sound that grinded in the early 90's was just as beautiful. Tonight's 3 A.M. recording was part of this Manchester House sound that emulated the streets of the English town. I've played albums by The Stone Roses, and The Charlatans in this section of the show. Even though the first band mentioned didn't have an organ sound, all three bands rose out of this great English city in the late 80's and early 90's. I looked at my list of past recordings, and I was amazed that I had never played an album by Inspiral Carpets. I have over 30 separate CD's by the band, so it would seem a given. Tonight I will pay tribute to one of the best bands to come out of England, ever. Their sound resembled The Doors crashing with The Buzzcocks. Their concerts resembled Pink Floyd in a club, with tons of lasers, spotlights, slides, strobes, and fog.....lots of it!!! Their singer has a voice that you cannot deny, almost Sinatra like. Smooth and silky, just like the Hammond Organ that circles through their music. Heavy drum and bass rhythms with screeching guitars, melodies abound. When I met the band in 93', they said that they always wanted to have songs with good choruses. All of their songs had at least that, and so much more. Here is, in my opinion the greatest album by the Inspiral Carpets, 'Revenge of the Goldfish', played all the way through. "This is my future, this is my past and they meet in the middle of nowhere. Won't you lend me a hand stuck out in nowhere land, waiting for someone to hear me." Peace and hugs, Michael Recorded and available.
