Love was the direct message. For the band and for George himself. A big chunk of the spiritual psyche has been lost. First Douglas Adams, then the thousands of people "still" dying from the wars battling around the world, and now a Beatle. (2001 sure has been a battle for us humans hasn’t it?) His music lives on and so does his spirit in millions of people around the world. Now a celebration in the work of George Harrison Music for Listeners style. All of the Handmade films I've seen are worth repeating. Check them out. Here's a link to a list of the films Harrison took part in without the Beatles. http://www.eskimo.com/~cathy/hariontour/harimovies.htm Of course there is Time Bandits, Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl, and Mona Lisa, but "Withnail and I" is one of the best movies that slipped through the proverbial cracks. A few Handmade films are some of the best films ever, and we have to give props to Harrison for this as well. 20)The Beatles-"While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Acoustic Demo)" From the CD 'Anthology 3'. 20)The Beatles-"Within You Without You" From the vinyl LP 'Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band'. 22)The Beatles-"Only A Northern Song" From the CD songtrack to the film "Yellow Submarine". 21)The Beatles-"Savoy Truffle" From the vinyl LP 'The Beatles (White Album)'. 22)The Beatles-"Think for Yourself" From the vinyl LP 'Rubber Soul'. 23)The Beatles-"It's All Too Much" From the CD songtrack to the film 'Yellow Submarine'. 24)The Beatles-"Piggies" From the vinyl LP 'The Beatles (White Album)'. 25)The Beatles-"Here Comes the Sun" From the CD 'Abbey Road'. 26)The Beatles-"Do you Want to Know a Secret" From the CD 'Please Please Me'. 27)The Beatles-"All Things Must Pass (Demo)". Which by the way was released in 5.1 Dolby Surround. For me the last couple of days have been filled with peace. It's been a sad time, but it has also been the right time it seems. Harrison is no longer in pain, and since the war started on that September morning, I feel that we've all needed more peace in our lives. Most of us agree, The Beatles epitomized the feeling of peace through music. I do know they all would still share the opinion that this idea of peace should sell more than their records will always do. I do find it sad that 2001 will be documented as the year a Beatle died, but I do hope that this event will strengthen the life and times of us all. John still hasn't left too much after 21 years. John was taken by an insane man. George was taken the way he wanted to be. I find peace in the later. The Beatles still, and always will be here long after all of us are gone. 33) "The 3 A.M. Recording" He had so many songs left over from the Beatles that he made his first solo album a triple LP set, spanning an hour and forty-five minutes. I remembered Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton being on the album, but after some digging and a greater knowledge of music than I used to have. I have found that the talent on this album is completely without any price. George himself featuring fellow Beatle Ringo, with Klaus Voorman, Eric Clapton, Dave Mason, Billy Preston, Pete Drake, Gary Wright, and the band Badfinger playing percussion and rhythm guitars. Add to that, the co-production of Phil Spector and Harrison, and even add to that EMI tape operator John Leckie (producer for Stone Roses, Verve, Radiohead), and you have an awesome team that is sure fire goodness. It's no wonder that George was the first Beatle to strike a number one hit as a solo artist with "My Sweet Lord". I'm surprised that I didn't play this album on the show before. The songs on this album are so well executed with two versions of "Isn't it a Pity", the title track, "I'd Have you Anytime", "Wah-Wah", "Behind That Locked Door", "Let it Down", the Dylan tune "If Not for You", "WHAT IS LIFE?"!! The bulk of these songs could have easily been Beatle recordings, but it doesn't really matter, as all of these songs are a test to the sheer brilliance of true Harrison. I'm a little sad that half the Beatles have passed, but I celebrate the fact, that for I really feel George Harrison is now in another realm, a place that he searched for all his life. He said that "people shouldn't be afraid of dying, they should except it as a part of the life circle". As with John Lennon's death, the passing of George has affected me deeply. The first part of the show was mainly dedicated to his work with The Beatles. Tonight's recording is 'All Things Must Pass'. The quintessential George Harrison solo work. Peace to you sir, and to everyone who seeks it. "Something's take so long, but how do I explain? When not too many people can see we're all the same. And because of all their tears, Their eyes can't hope to see The beauty that surrounds them-oh Isn't it a pity." I love you all for being a part of my life, and for reading and "listening". Michael.
