Recording" Mazzy Star is a Californian band, but their melancholy sound doesn't lend to this area of origin. With their grinding Hammond organs, haunting lyrics, rhythmic guitars, and slow tempos, they sound more like a Northeastern U.S. band, or maybe even a British group. If you've never heard of Mazzy Star before, then for one, you have really missed out on one of the best albums from the 90's. This, in my opinion, is an erotic piece of genius, featuring slow, romantic, and smooth atmospheres to tame the wildest of sprits. (This is not a depressing album mind you, just a relaxing one.) With a slightly spiritual undertone, they could be compared to The Cowboy Junkies in places, and to Galaxie 500 in others, but mostly it's Hope Sandoval that sends this music to the stratosphere making it pure Mazzy Star. Miss Sandoval and her lovely voice send the group over the top to mix perfectly with the mystical music of producer and songwriter David Roback. (This band needs a live album for the reason that they are just as good live as they are on record.) All the songs on this sophomore recording are good, and to single a track out would be hard. "Fade Into You" was the big hit, and most of you out there have heard it someplace I'm sure, but of course there are better songs than the hit single to feast your ears upon. Take my word on this one, if you have this album tucked away in your record collection, then pull it out and give it another spin. If you don't have the album, then go out and find it. It's just as good today as it was when it was released just over 8 years ago. It's not repressive, depressive, or offensive in any way, but just plain good.....your parents might even like it. It's also another good recording to slip into while spending a cold night by the fire. Released in 1993 The band Mazzy Star with the album 'So Tonight I Might See' "Come so close that I might see, see the light come down on me I hold you tight like rain Sunshine on a rainy day Sunshine on a rainy day" Peace and hugs, Michael Recorded and available for upload. listen in live 1:05 AM-4:00 AM CST Friday Night/Saturday mornings in San Antonio FM 91.7 or world wide at www.krtu.org Music For Listeners web-site: http://hometown.aol.com/orbfile23/myhomepage/index.html MPEG3 of the week site: http://home.satx.rr.com/music4listeners/Mpeg3%20of%20the%20week/
