Nice and cool. Not for everyone, but pleasant never the less. 22)"The 3 A.M. Recording" I keep telling everyone...."With music, it's all in the producer, and with movies it's all in the director". Tonight's album would certainly be a good exhibit in the case to back up the musical side of that statement. One producer that keeps popping up in the right places is Martin Glover, a man better known as simply, Youth. He's been a producer for James, plus a writer/producer/mixer with The Orb, The Fireman, Celtic Cross, Dub Trees....the list goes on and on. He's also an excellent REmixer with the work ethic of a horse....plus he wears a kilt. I was already a fan of his work by the time I heard he was producing the third album by one of the best bands of the 90's, The Verve. This third album took a little while for me to actually get once it finally did come out, as I wasn't in a hurry. At the time, I was disgruntled with their second album, 'A Northern Soul', (which now I love.), and the choice of producer on this second album was not a favorite to begin with. I should have known that Youth, with his touch, would have make them sound awesome. I did finally hear "Urban Hymns, and a few days later I bought my own copy of it. Needless to say, it still took me a little while to get used to the sound of the new album. It was different and more commercial than their first, and in my opinion their best album, 'A Storm in Heaven', but after about 3 months of listening to 'Urban Hymns', it started to take hold. The lush production seeps into your brain, and then it's almost becomes addictive to listen to. Almost a year after this album came out, I got to see The Verve play their third to last show ever. It was an concert experience I'll never forget. I did see The Verve in 93' as well with about 100 other people in Austin, and that was also a concert experience I can't forget. I was happy to have even just seen them twice in their short time as a band. Since their break up in 1998, I've come to the conclusion, that The Verve didn't make a one bad song in the 7 years they played. Even all 30 or 40 of their b-sides are good. Hell, they even have a couple of unreleased songs that you can only get live, and those are great too!!! The band just never failed to please, but with each album they put out, it was a rock and roll test....for them and the listener. Each album had a place it needed to go, and those places took a little getting used to. Once you get there, you're golden. The Verve will always have a special place in my heart and mind, so I'm pleased to tell you that on this show I played "Urban Hymns", by The Verve. Co-produced by Youth, his friend Chris Potter, and The Verve Their last, but amazing CD. "There ain't no space and time to keep our love alive. We have existence and that's all we share."
