Good morning readers... The show was so-so, as I was quite stressed out with a new job and all, but it was still a nice listen.....especially the 3 A.M. Recording. Before the New York Dolls, before the Modern Lovers, before Iggy and Stooges, there was The Velvet Underground. So much of the music that I play on this show can be traced back to the melancholy music of Lou Reed and the New York city band he fronted. No doubt they influenced most of the rock music that followed them. U2, R.E.M., Spiritualized, Swervedriver, Pixies, The Strokes...they all cite The V.U. as one of their primary influences, and as one of the driving forces in American rock and roll. Listening to The Velvet Underground's 3rd album earlier at work, I was reminded how good this band really was. I hadn't heard this particular recording in about 10 years, but I knew right away that I had to play it on this part of the show. The song writing is seamless and incredible, and as a whole, the band didn't write a bad song. However, personally, I would go with their third album as their musical peak. Punk music before the term even existed. A little country twang mixed with some noise and psychedelic atmospheres. Warhol would be proud. Here is The Velvet Underground's self titled album 'The Velvet Underground'. "If you close the door, the night could last forever. Keep the sunshine out and say hello to never. All the people are dancing and they're havin such fun. I wish it could happen to me. But if you close the door, I'd never have to see the day again" Peace and hugs, Michael listen in live 1:05 AM-4:00 AM CST Friday Night/Saturday mornings in San Antonio FM 91.7 or world wide at www.krtu.org Music For Listeners web-site: http://hometown.aol.com/orbfile23/myhomepage/index.html MPEG3 of the week site: http://home.satx.rr.com/music4listeners/Mpeg3%20of%20the%20week/
