Hello hello fair readers. An announcement, I have a small addition to the playlist. You will still get the lists of songs I play every week. but now I will start you off with two or three of my favorite web links to help all of you get fired from your corporate jobs. lol. They might music or film related, but they will be there for all of you curious folks, each and every week. Starting with this one. In other news: Keep all your fingers crossed....there may be a time in the not so distant future where the previous weeks show will be streamed over the net 24/7. That way, if you have an internet connection, you don't have to listen in live. You could listen in....anytime. I'll keep you all posted when this will happen, meanwhile.... http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/02/06/index1a.html A link to a very helpful website about making your own Enhanced CD's. It happens to be well written by Rose Marshack, the bass player of the Poster Children. http://publici.ucimc.org/feb2002/22002_7.htm Another interesting website written by Rose Marshack, however this one is about keeping an indie-rock band going for almost 15 years. If you want to know the way to do it right, click above. http://www.xtcidearecords.co.uk/ XTC official site. Made through the band themselves. You can buy autographed and web only releases here. Recording" I've listened to tonight's featured artist a lot. As a matter of a fact, I've listened to them for over 14 years now, and like so many other bands, I kicked myself when I didn't find them sooner. They are one of the main bands that forced me to question myself, "Why didn't I hear this band before their 5th album?" Back in the heyday of 1984, R.E.M. were beginning to break their image of just the "party band" from Georgia. They began their world conquest of sorts with their second recording and their first hit single, "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)". They even played it way back when on David Letterman, and they still didn't really achieve popularity until their 5th proper album, when I found out that they played more than that "I'm sorry" song. Way before they were a household name, R.E.M. always have put out excellent work though. R.E.M. hasn't released a bad song in 20+ years of making music, and I will say that even after the period of winning all their various MTV awards, they still went on to make popular, and most importantly, good music. (U2 is really the only other 80's band that I can think of that has pulled it off even better.) Top notch songs and Stipe's shaky voice were always the trademark of one of the best bands in the past 20 years, and their earlier work proves that they were a force to be "reckoned" with. I could transmit about 4 or 5 more different recordings from this band for you all to hear, and as my show rolls on into the future, I just might. However, their second album has been a long favorite, and features some of the best songs they ever wrote. "Camera", "Pretty Persuasion", "Letter Never Sent", "Harborcoat", the list goes on and on. I would have to say that I've listened to this album more than any other R.E.M. recording, and listening to it tonight, I realized that the quality still holds up almost 18 years after it's release. Every song IS a gem. What a great band...what a great bunch of songs. R.E.M. second album 'Reckoning'. "Alone in a crowd, a bartered lantern borrowed. If I'm to be your camera, then who will be your face?" Peace and hugs, Michael Coming up in March..... A tribute to Pink Floyd. The band is celebrating their 35th anniversary, and all of the 3 A.M. Recordings will be set aside for my favorite Floyd works. There are 5 Friday's in March...so you can conclude it will be their best 5.
