Hi there readers. I know, this playlist is two weeks old...but that's how busy I've been lately. Again it's a two for one deal. It was also my first of two shows during pledge drive at KRTU, so I couldn't write it while I played it. All excuses aside, I recorded this one, so if you must hear it, you can send me an e-mail back at me. Here are some links and some good news on that subject. http://www.krtu.org/alternative.htm Great news actually! You can now listen to my show all week long, anytime. If you have a computer with internet access and speakers, then you can hear a streamed recording of not only my show, but all the other over-night alternative shows on KRTU. Hit the "Friday Night" link and fast forward an hour into it, and that should be the start of my show. A new Music For Listeners should be available at 8 A.M. every Saturday morning. (Only 4 hours after it ends.) So now....you can't complain about my show being on to late. You can still listen in live as well, but if you miss it, or live out of town, you have a whole week to catch the show. NOTE: If you have dial-up access, then it will take a little while for you to download the streamed music, but once you have it...it will sound great. If you have a faster connection (DSL, Cable, T1 or T3), then it will sound the same, but it will download much faster. http://www.wim-wenders.com/ A link to the official Wim Wenders page. For those of you who don't know him. He's one of the best directors to ever create cinema. http://nix.nasa.gov/ The NASA Image eXchange. Good pictures and a gazillion to choose from too. Recording" As most of the albums I play are older, I've been thinking lately about playing a newer album for this part of show. I've just had a hard time picking which one to play. What's an newer album that's good all the way through, and deserves to be played for unsuspecting "listeners"? Suddenly, one day at work it hit me. Why not the album I've been listening to for the past two months straight. Being released in June of 2001, it was newer than most albums...it "cut the mustard" so to speak. Even though it did come out last year, for some reason this album feels like a lost relic of the late 60's, or early 70's. (One of the best musical periods ever.) A little Brian Wilson, a little Kinks, some Big Star, some Beatles, and also a touch of a more modern influence from XTC, and Talking Heads. A four piece from the mountains of Albuquerque, that believe a great organ sound, and "in the car singing" lyrics can make a song that's worth listening to over and over again. The lush production of their debut CD, is nothing short of spectacular, and the lyrics are so thought provoking and playful. (I can't wait to hear this one in the car during the summer.) They've all know each other for almost 10 years, and it seems that with their live performance, they can have tight and just as playful musical conversations. They started with the name Flake in the early to mid 90's, then migrated into FlakeMusic until 1999. Then as a side project, they started a quirky, but serious pop rock band......almost as a joke. Turns out, it's not a joke....it's just a band full of brilliant songs. Did I mention the lyrics? Please trust these experienced musicians. They seem to have been friends for a while...and it seems they know what their doing. Ladies and Gentlemen: Albuquerque, New Mexico's, The Shins with their debut release 'Oh, Inverted World'. A newbie....but a destined classic. "But your lips when we speak are the valleys and peaks of a mountain range on fire. So let me walk these coals 'till you believe....I can cut the mustard...well enough." Peace and hugs, Michael Recorded...but since there is a way to listen in to the show through the KRTU website 24/7.....I may only record the special event shows for now on. Now you can listen in live 1:05 AM-4:00 AM CST Friday Night/Saturday mornings with a live stream at: www.krtu.org And you can also hear a archive of the previous weeks show world wide on the KRTU website 24/7 at this link: http://www.krtu.org/alternative.htm Hit the "Friday Night" link on that page, and forward into the clip about an hour.
