Music For Listeners 03/16/02 1)Inspiral Carpets-"Memories of You" & "She Comes in the Fall" From the UK vinyl LP 'Life'. My show doesn't have a theme song, but "Memories of You" is pretty close. I've played it at the beginning of many a show. Also, the UK version of "She Comes in the Fall" is different than the U.S. release. 2)Young American Primitive-"The Reality of Nature" From the 12" single for "These Waves". Very rare indeed. 3)The KLF-"Make It Rain" From the ever so fabulous JAMs LP 6, 'The White Room'. This UK version has live noise at the beginning and end of the track. Is it live???......or is it some bad brand of tape? 4)Thievery Corporation-"Universal Highness" From the vinyl LP 'Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi'. Anything this band does is gold. 5)Silkworm-"YRWEB" From the CD 'Lifestyle'. This song just plain rocks. "I was happy to be wrapped up, pleased beyond dreams to be tangled in your web." 6)Aphex Twin-"Pulsewidth" From the CD 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92'. This song was made with he was just 16 years old. ALL of the songs on this album were made when Richard D. James was between the ages of 13 and 20. Most of these songs were part of exclusive music tapes given as gifts to friends. He then asked his friends for their favorites, and those were compiled. 7)Luna-"Tiger Lily (Live)" From the CD 'Live'. This is one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Not for everyone....but if you like Velvet Underground mixed with Kermit the Frog, then Luna is your band. 8)Luna-"Lovedust" From the forthcoming CD 'Romantica'. Played last night at SXSW 2002!!!! The line was around the block, and decided to see the next band. 9)The Shins-"Caring is Creepy" From the vinyl LP 'Oh, Inverted World'. It really does sound better on vinyl. The band themselves told me that it would. Anytime this band plays within a 100 mile radius from now on, I will go see them. Their were absolutely fabulous. 10)The Verve-"Catching the Butterfly" From the CD 'Urban Hymns'. The Verve did not make one bad song. I have collected all of their released work....single, E.P's, records.....and I haven't found a single bad song. No kidding. 11)The Beta Band-"Al Sharp" From the CD 'Hot Shots II'. Will I ever see the Beta Band live???? 12)New Order-"Crystal" From the CD 'Get Ready'. Here's a band that still continues to make good singles. 13)R.E.M.-"Begin the Begin" From the vinyl LP 'Life's Rich Pagent'. "I can't even rhyme in the begin". 14)Frank Black-"Czar (Live)" From a promo only live E.P., released by Elektra. A song about John Denver. This disc also features 4 songs performed by They Might Be Giants. They are good friends of Mr. Black. 15)Pixies-"Lovely Day" From the CD 'Tromp le Monde'. This song reminds me of lost love in the early 90's. Not really a surprise, since that was when the song was released. "I dream of your red dress riding down these grand canals....OH BABY it's not Europe!!" 16)The Monkees-"She" From the vinyl LP 'More of the Monkees'. What a kick ass song. "She needs someone to walk on, so her feet don't touch the ground." 17)The Orb-"Perpetual Dawn (Double Album Version)" From the double CD version of 'The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld'. The best and longest version of the song. 18)Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac-"Love That Burns" From the CD 'Mr. Wonderful'. A freakin' amazing blues song. 19)The Charlatans-"I Don't Care Where You Live" From the vinyl LP 'Us and Us Only'. "I don't care where you live.....for today I started loving you again". Bloody great song. 20)The Polyphonic Spree-"Section 8 (Soldier Girl)" From the CD 'The Beginning Stages...' A 25 piece band that I saw last night. Very moving and powerful to see 25 people on one stages....and everybody is SINGING!!! 21)Electric Light Orchestra-"Tightrope" From the vinyl LP 'A New World Record'. The best E.L.O. album.......for sure!!!! 22)The Boo Radleys-"Monument for a Dead Century" From the CD 'Kingsize'. Beautiful and rockin....at the same time. 23)Chomsky-"Light" From the CD 'Onward Quirky Solders'. They skipped over this song on the set list last night. I've only heard this one live once.........just once. 24)Spiritualized-"Step Into the Breeze (Part One)" From their very first 7" single for "Anyway That you Want Me", (a Troggs cover tune.) This was released when the members of Spacemen 3 were recording in different studios. The end of the beginning...or vice versa. 22)"The 3 A.M Recording" Pink Floyd-'Atom Heart Mother'
