Howdy there folks.... Michael here with a little news. Due to a strange computer glitch, (one from Outlook Express and one from Hotmail), I seem to have lost the playlists from the last two weeks. I could redo them, but it really takes me a while to do one of these things. Much less do them over. Since I now work 31 hours from Friday to Sunday, it's been harder for me to get these playlists out. However, I think I've come up with a solution for me to get the playlist out to you all quicker. SO...you should again see the playlist at the beginning of the week, instead of a week or two later. lol. Now a little more news... For those who don't know....The film that Mr. Ross Ruediger and company have slaved over for the past two years, "Ravenswan" will finally have it's premiere on this Thursday night. The cast and the crew was made up of entirely San Antonio artists, including yours truly editing the sound effects and dialogue. Ross Ruediger, who wrote and directed the film cites "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", "Sunset Blvd", Oscar Wilde, and of all things, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" as the main influences of the piece. After working on the whole bleeding thing, bit by bit, for 7 months, I would have to agree with him. The world premiere takes place at the Santikos Embassy 14 Theater, 281 and Bitters at 7:30 P.M. It's just a ten measly dollars to get in, and it's open to the public. However, we have had a good response in advance, so if you need to get to bed early, then it's best to get there early for the first showing. If there are at least 45 people that will come back for a later showing, then we will show it again immediately following the first showing. Should be an interesting night for all. Come support local independent film making, and be one of the first 350 people to see it. This weeks links of interest... http://www.insound.com/ A nice place to find some MP3's. Recording" There is always a peak. The so called "best" period of an artists career. Tonight we are continuing on with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Pink Floyd....and the recordings played here tonight are special to me for so many reasons. Being the 23rd of March, it was 29 years ago today that saw the release of my favorite album ever made. Even though it IS my personal favorite collection of music, I have never played it on this part of the show. The reason being, as you know, I try to play things that don't get too much airplay on other stations, so tonight I will have to make an exception to this rule. This particular album was on the Billboard top 200 album chart for almost 16 years straight, and has spent more time in the top 200 than any other album in history. I guess you can say that this the most popular piece of music I've ever played in it's entirety. Most likely you've heard it, and most likely you own it. Of course, I am speaking of the 1973 release 'Dark Side of the Moon'. An album about the madness of life. Breathing, running, checking the time, the worry of money, the worry of going insane, and trying to cope with the fact that through all of these tricks of life, we all will pass away. No wonder it's extremely popular. It strikes a familiar chord in all of us that hear it. On a professional note, I would have to say that I've also learned so much about the art of sound recording from the listening of this record. For almost my whole life, this album has taught me how good rock music is contracted, and how it needs to be treated to bring out the full potential of the sounds. On another note, this untouchable album would have never been made if the studio album before it hadn't seen the light of day. Even though I have already played the album 'Meddle' as a 3 A.M. Recording before. I will have to present an encore presentation in this case, (It's actually the only album to be repeated since I started playing The 3 A.M. Recording almost 2 years ago.), as a tribute to the Floyd wouldn't be complete without this inventive work. In addition, 'Meddle' features the epic 24 minute "Echoes". Which is arguably the best piece of music ever written by the Floyd, and possibly the best song ever written....period. It's these two albums that represent the most inventive and artistic period of Pink Floyd. Even though I like every album made by them, here's what I would consider the two best albums they ever made, 'Meddle' and forever classic 'Dark Side of the Moon'. The best of the best. These recordings sound as fresh today as they did then. "You pick the place and I'll choose the time, and I'll climb that hill in my own way. Just wait a while for the right day. And as you rise above the tree line and the clouds...you look down. Hear the sounds of the things you said today." From "Fearless" on 'Meddle'. "For long you live and high you fly. But only if you ride the tide. And balanced on the biggest wave, you race toward an early grave". From "Breathe" on 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Peace and hugs.
