28) "The Mid-Morning Recording"              Alt-J Δ-'An Awesome Wave'
This band certainly has achieved cult status at this point. Quickly selling out Stubbs in Austin is a good sign of that status I around these parts I would say. It helps to have good music, and this band's debut album is certainly that. It's different, but it also sounds familiar. When I talked with the band a year ago this month, they told me the list of bands people hear in their music is far and wide, and most of them they've never listened to before. They are obviously influenced by Radiohead, and they do all love them, but I personally hear a lot of XTC; in the lyrical phrasings especially. The way Andy Partridge flies through the words over the rhythms on English Settlement in particular, is something I hear on this album a lot. They said apart from "Making Plans for Nigel", they hadn't heard anything else from XTC, but they have heard them mentioned a couple of times. I've seen Alt-J Δ twice in concert and after seeing this album performed live twice over, I can truly say that I'm really looking forward to their next recorded venture. I think they realize that with this debut album being as good as it is, (Mercury Prize aside), the second album will be a big test. I think this band is going to be around a while. Thanks to their manager Tav for sending us a few tracks from this album in early 2012! We've been playing this one for many months and it needs to be played for the listeners as a whole. "This is a nod to the canon". - Michael - MFL
29) James-"Sayonara"  From the CD 'Wah-Wah'.
