30) "The Mid-Morning Recording"               Rickie Lee Jones-'Rickie Lee Jones'
I first saw Rickie Lee Jones on SNL back in 1979 when she was promoting this debut release. At the time, I thought her music was interesting, but since my parents didn't seem to buy her music, I didn't really get into her work until later. I guess my love for Rickie Lee Jones started way back then, but after The Orb sampled her for their hit, "Little Fluffy Clouds", I became more and more aware of her work. Then in the year 2000 on a visit to San Diego, my long time friend Sarah got us tickets to see Rickie Lee at Humphrey's by the Bay. It was an amazing place to see her and the venue and company were certainly stellar. Maybe the best venue to see this particular artist. I did see a true test to Rickie's talent when I got a second chance to see her in the basic convention halls in the Austin Convention Center during SXSW. It was for a TV taping for DirectTV broadcasting live from SXSW, and once again she was magnificent. Just a thrill to see her perform, and I was with strangers in a space that is normally used for conventions. That first show was eighteen years ago, and the SXSW show I know was at least nine or ten years ago. Since then I have to say without a doubt, she is one of the most under appreciated singers alive today. If you like blues, soul, jazz, rock, pop, funk, (who doesn't if you listen to this show), then you shouldn't miss Rickie Lee Jones next time she comes around your town.
