I hope you've been enjoying the new Beatles documentary by Peter Jackson. I know I sure have been. To honor that amazing piece of music film I decided to play the album that Paul McCartney wished the album would have sounded like in 1970. In the early 2000's McCartney decided to release an alternate mix of The Beatles final album 'Let It Be'. The version has all the embellishments that Phil Spector added into the recordings when he was given the project to quote/unquote, fix. I like the alternative mix just as much as Spector's version, and there are a couple of tracks I like more. Also, "Don't Let Me Down" is added to the album, which seems ridiculous that it wasn't included on the original release. Yes it was a b-side, but the remixed rooftop recording for this album, is my favorite mix of the song. Billy Preston shines as the Sixth Beatle, with fifth Beatle George Martin downstairs in the control room. I always overlooked 'Let It Be' as I grew up thinking George Martin had nothing to do with it. I was in error. "All I want is you. Everything has got to be just like you want it to.
