Hey ladies and gents... Here is another two for one deal. This is not the past weekends list....but the list of the previous weeks show. When the movie I'm working on (Ravenswan) is finished, I should be getting these lists to you all a lot quicker. Music For Listeners 09/22/01 1)Built to Spill-"Big Dipper" From the CD 'There's Nothing Wrong With Love'. 2)Heatmiser-"Eagle Eye" From the CD 'Mic City Sons'. 3)Orbital-"Tension" From the CD 'The Altogether'. 4)The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (The JAMs)-"Don't Take Five (Take What You Want) (Album Version)" From the CD bootleg '1987-What the Fuck is Going On?' 5)Komeda-"Rocket Plane (Music on the Moon)" From the CD 'The Genius Of...'. 6)the Charlatans-"You're So Pretty, We're So Pretty". From the bran new CD 'Wonderland'. 7)Creeper Lagoon-"Hey Sister" From the CD 'Give Back the Universe, I'll Take Yesterday'. 8)Lily Frost-"Who Am I" From the CD 'Lunamarium'. 9)Electric Light Orchestra-"Telephone Line (Live)" From the PBS concert "Up Close with E.L.O." Good show...too bad they canceled their tour. 10)System 7-"Jupiter (Live from the Dark Side Mix)" One of many live remixes of this song done by DJ Skidoo. This one came in at a short 14 minutes. Original versions can be found on the out of print double CD set 'Fire and Water'. For Orbgirl...it's her favorite song by them too. 11)Mercury Rev-"Nite and Fog" From the brand new CD 'All is Dream'. I can't get enough of this song and album. This CD is in heavy rotation in my player. 12)Pink Floyd-"Echoes" From the Shine On Box Set Re-Master of 'Meddle'. This could be the best song ever made. What other station would play a 24 minute song? I got a lot of calls during this song. Some thanking me for playing it, and some wanting to know who it was. Yes.....it's that good. 13)Inspiral Carpets-"Lost In Space Again" Only found on the UK 12" single for "Generations". I didn't have it for so long. Now I do. This band would be happy that they followed a Pink Floyd song. 14)Jellyfish-"Jet (Live)" From the promo only CD 'Jellyfish Comes Alive'. Quite rare and sought after by collectors. 15)Chomsky-"Gravitate" & "Herod's Daughter" From the CD 'Onward Quirky Solders'. I only have two more songs to play off of this CD, then I will have played them all. This album is currently the number one seller at Good Records in Dallas. This will be the best CD of the year for me. Promise. 16)Nineteen Forty-Five-"In a Red Cavalier" From the CD 'Together We'll Burn Like Autumn Leaves'. Unknown band from Atlanta. Listened to the CD in the studio and it's good stuff. If you like Pixies, Pavement, or Weezer at all, check them out. 17)R.E.M.-"She Just Wants to Be" From the CD 'Reveal'. 18)Ben Folds-"Not the Same" From the brand new CD 'Rockin' The Suburbs'. If the Chomsky wasn't there...this would be my favorite album of the year. Promise. 19)"The 3 A.M. Recording" Some bands just have it. Some bands just know how to play their instruments well, and they also know how to play together. The Beatles had that pep and spunkiness that made you feel happy as they played with their smiles and humor. I sit here writing this, and I can't really think of another band that played with such passion and fun as the Beatles...except for tonight's "3 A.M." artist. I've seen this band 7 times in their short 6 year history. I was really amazed at how each time, they would play such different versions of a song from the previous show. They would always feel the crowd, and work with them to give the best show possible. Most importantly, they always looked like THEY were having fun. There were so many songs that were not even on the set list. Someone would just yell it out....and they would break into it, and sometimes it wasn't even their own song. At one show, they played classic rock songs for 20 minutes, just because people kept yelling out songs. It was always like having the spontaneity of a jazz trio, but it was pure rock and roll. They even had a jazz trio set up of piano, bass and drums, how cool is that? Three guys that knew what they we're doing. As they played, you we're always taken up in their energy and fun. Tonight in honor of Ben Folds playing a solo tour, (which was a great show), I'm playing a CD by one of the best bands ever, Ben Folds Five. An album that is destined to be a 90's classic. Their second album 'Whatever and Ever, Amen' in it's entirety. "Come on baby. Now throw me a right to the chin. Don't just stare like you never cared I know you did. You just smiled like a bank teller. Telling me blankly, have a nice life." Peace and hugs, Michael Recorded and available for download.
