29) "The Mid-Morning Recording"        Laurie Anderson-'United States Live (Part 2)'
Last week we played the first part of United States Live by Laurie Anderson. This week we continue with part 2. This part features what would be Laurie's most known piece and that is "O Superman (For Massenet)". A piece about the American Industrial Military Complex, and maybe the saddest part about listening to this piece at the present time, is that it is still quite relevant over 40 years later. Just as true then as it is now, the piece brings to light the psychological and financial struggles with American's place as the military "protector of the world". In her own words, "technology cannot save you". The piece gave Laurie recognition in the UK when John Peel was given the song by the One Ten Records owner B. (Bob) George. Peel played the song on his BBC One broadcasts, and the song would reach #2 on the UK singles chart. This part of the United States Live show also features the song "Let X=X" from her album 'Big Science'; another signature composition from her earlier works. I also found out this past week that Laurie premiered a Part V of United States in Manchester, UK of all places. Maybe that will be released soon. Maybe she'll tour it through her homeland. Parts 3 and 4 coming to you listeners soon. "So hold me, Mom, in your long arms. Your petrochemical arms. Your military arms. In your electronic arms. In your arms."
30) James-"Sayonara"  From the album 'Wah-Wah'.
