33) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Big Soy-'Putting the ______ in ______'.
The more I listen to this album, the more I wish I would have placed it in my top 20 of last year.
It was my favorite album from a San Antonio band, but it deserves more than just that.
Big Soy is the first band from San Antonio to be played as a Mid-Morning Recording,
and there is a reason for that: There just aren't that many great albums recorded here.
There are only maybe a handful of albums from this city that should be played in their entirety, and
this is one of them. The humble band members of Big Soy have a great sense of humor, and they
seem to not like themselves as much as their fans do. I think it's all a game in order for people to
love them more. This album is strong. Every song is listenable and catchy as hell. Big Soy could have
released three or four singles from this album, easy. Instead of looking back, they keep recording more great
music, releasing one of the best E.P.'s of 2006 with "Part of You". They were also the first San Antonio band
to be a “MP3 of the Month” artist, and if Music For Listeners has our way, they will be loathing themselves outside
of the Alamo city a whole lot more. They just toured the UK in the late spring, so if you see them coming your way, bake some bread, and break it with a terrifically awesome band. Even though they have a name a vegan would shout for, they seem to not be vegetarians. I know they wouldn’t mind if you pelted them with veggie sandwiches though. They might be hungry.
