30) "The Mid-Morning Recording" The House of Love-'Babe Rainbow'
This is a really strong album from a pretty overlooked
band. The band has a cult following for sure, but The House of Love
is one of those bands that I couldn't believe people weren't listening
to. People didn't know what they were missing and this album was the
first one by them that really grabbed me. I'm glad to say that I have
seen them in a live setting. I even saw them with Fontana label mates
Ocean Colour Scene and Catherine Wheel on the same bill in the year
this album came out, 1992. An interesting year, and in the year I saw
almost 35 concerts. I remember The House of Love/Ocean Colour Scene/Catherine
Wheel being a really good one show, even though Orlando and I don't
remember a whole lot of the show. I really like their first self-titled
album a lot as well, and I'm sure that will be played as a MMR in the
future, but this one has my favorite song from the band, "The Girl
With the Loneliest Eyes". I mainly played this recording because
The Shins are putting out their new record this coming week. I know
James Mercer is a big fan of The House of Love, so I guess I was thinking
of him when I came across this record in my collection. I hope you like
it as much as I do.
