33) "The Mid-Morning Recording Pixies-'Trompe le Monde'
Even their worst record is better than most groups
best. I remember buying this record the very day it was released and
it even ended up as my favorite album of 1991. At the time, Pixies were
my favorite band, and little did I know at the time, this record would
be their last. Or is it? After this release and the tour that followed,
Pixies broke up, it seemed never to play again. It does have a little
bit of a solo "Frank Black" feel to it, but it's still all
Black Francis and group. "U-Mass", "Planet of Sound",
"Subbacultcha", "Lovely Day"...so many great songs
on this one. An amazing album by one of the most amazing and influential
bands ever. The Beatles of my generation??? Possibly. I'm very grateful
that they got back together, so everyone could see them in all of their
splendor. I hope they record and release another album. Even fifteen
years after their last proper recording, it's bound to be good. In honor
of their new DVD documenting their reunion tour, to be released this
coming week, I'm playing the last of the original Pixies recordings,
which also happens to be the last of the original Pixies albums played
on this part of the show.
