Of course, Orlando brings in a lot of new CD's for
the listeners and I to enjoy. In the middle of last year he brought in
this little gem by what was at the time, a little Swedish band. (He even
brought it in on import.) We had been playing lots of Swedish bands on
the show and I thought this was another of the great, but unknown bands
from Northern Europe. I liked this album the moment I heard it, and apparently
everyone else in the world found it just as wonderful as well. Within
weeks of us posting "Amsterdam" as a MFL Track of the Month, this
album was everywhere. Drew Barrymore was wearing their t-shirt on SNL,
and the catchy tune "Young Folks" was featured on every commercial
and talk show under the sun. They also became the band to see at SXSW
2007. Big enough that Orly and I didn't even try to fight the crowds to
see them. "We'll see them later on by themselves, playing a longer
set". Orlando and I both put "Young Folks" in our top ten
singles of last year, and this album made it into our top 20 as well.
There is a lot of good artists coming out of Sweden these days, and this
band is certainly one of them. "Baby went to Amsterdam".
