29) "The Mid-Morning Recording" The
White Stripes-'Under Blackpool Lights'
I've never seen them live, and since I saw the
Raconteurs in 2006, I can't wait to see The White Stripes at the 2007
Austin City Limits Festival. I never really wanted to see Jack and Meg
in concert until I sat through this film. I was really impressed with
the rawness of the sound and the accompanying visuals. The footage works
well because it's shot in 8mm, and that really goes well with the atmosphere
the band wants to portray. The music and the raw film seem to capture
the electricity shooting through the room. Since this is radio, you
only get the audio, but that is almost as good. As I listen to it playing
now I can't help but think these two things: 1) I'm glad there is a
visual companion to tonight's "Mid-Morning Recording", and
2) I'm glad John Peel made me understand how interesting their music
really is.
"If everybody in the place would just get out, we'll get clean
together, and I'll find myself a soapbox so I can shout."
Michael - MFL
