31) "The Mid-Morning Recording" The
Fountain Motion Picture Soundtrack - The music of Clint Mansell - Performed
by The Kronos Quartet and Mogwai
It must be nice to make some phone calls and get
The Kronos Quartet and Mogwai to perform music for your next motion
picture. I can't believe how amazing this soundtrack is, and I can't
believe how overlooked this film was. I finally saw "The Fountain"
on DVD this week, after seeing Aronofsky's first two movies in the theater.
When this one came out in the cinema, all I heard was around film circles
was, "Oh, 'The Fountain', that movie was boring". So I didn't
see it at the time, but I knew at some point, being a fan of the director's
work, I would. For some reason, no one seemed to like or "get"
this latest movie from the great American film director, Darren Aronofsky.
Maybe most people don't have an attention span for a wonderfully atmospheric
movie. I guess everyone was expecting something as shocking as "Requiem
for A Dream", but what they got instead, was a psychedelic science-fiction
love story about eternal life. It is certainly something different from
the director, but in my opinion, this motion picture was equally shocking
as his previous two films, and just as good, if not better. I can honestly
say that I saw this movie at the best possible time in my life; a life
that someday will obviously have an end. Who wants to live forever anyways?
I guess a piece of all of us will live forever. We lived as stardust
for billions of years before now; why couldn't we can return to living
as stardust for another billion or so?
