I love it when I stumble upon music that is older,
groundbreaking, and in great need of praise. Sometime in the early 90's
I saw the band Can listed as an influence of The Orb, so I investigated
and found something certainly groundbreaking for its time. The album
we present tonight was released in 1972, the year I was born, but it
really does sounds like it could have been released much later than
that. The album does have some long noisy jam sessions, and those tracks
are certainly needed to fill out the album with great and astounding
atmospheres. However even the big Can fans would have to agree that
the album shines on the tracks released as singles. "Spoon"
and "Vitamin C" are definately two of the best songs ever
made, and their influence is heard in most of the dance music heard
today. (Try to track down a live version of "Vitamin C", and
you won't be disappointed.) I've always wanted a vinyl copy of this
record, and the last copy I saw of it was on the wall of great Athens,
Georgia music store Wuxtry Records. Maybe one day I'll return there
to find it waiting for me. I'll dedicate this recording to Wim Wenders
and Dr. Alex Patterson, as they would be happy to hear this one played
on the radio in all of its glory. "Hey you...you're losing, you're
losing, you're losing, you're losing your vitamin c!!!"
