25) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Throwing
Muses-'The Real Ramona'
Every now and then I come across an album
buried in the depths of my CD collection to play as a "Mid-Morning
Recording", and I'm quite a bit surprised that tonights album hasn't
been played before. I first heard Throwing Muses mainly because I was
a already a great fan of Pixies and Blake Babies. They are all from
Boston, and they were recording much of their early material with the
same people, so in turn I found lots of bands at that time through producers
and engineers. Obviously anyone who has been listening to indie music
in the past 20 years has heard of Belly and/or Kristin Hersh, but before
Tanya Donelly would go to form Belly, she was a Throwing Muse with her
step-sister. I was sad to hear that Tanya would leave the band after
'The Real Ramona', but of course Belly would go out and make great music
and Tanya would eventually come back and make more music with Kirstin.
Again, I'm surprised that this hasn't been played before as I listened
to this album quite a lot in 1991. I love it when older albums hold
up, and listening to this one tonight, I would have to say that this
could be Throwing Muses at their best. I saw Belly live and Kristin
Hersh live, but I was never fortunate to see this band live. Maybe someday
they will play in Texas again. This one goes out to my friend Angela,
as she is the biggest Throwing Muses fan I know. "I built a tower
in my bones, I spill the mortar through my home"
