29) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Kraftwerk-'Autobahn'
I don't think any band in the history of music has influenced more electronic
artists than Kraftwerk. Apparently they were making music with instruments
that, at the time, cost as much as a Volkswagon Beetle. Compared to
newer music of the same genre, tonight's album does sound a little dated;
but what does one expect from an album of electronic music recorded
in 1974? I've had requests in the past to play the first song on the
record, and as much as I like the uncut version of "Autobahn",
it's hard to dedicate twenty-two minutes to the tracks portion of the
show. Of course, it's a perfect choice for a "Mid-Morning Recording",
but before last week, I only owned a cassette version of this groundbreaking
classic. Kraftwerk just finished another short U.S. tour on their way
to the Coachella Festival, but they chose to go through the north instead
of coming through the depths of Texas...pity. Tonight's album makes
me want to visit Germany, badly. "Fun fun fun of the Autobahn."
