24) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Teenage
Fanclub-'Bandwagonesque'
As good as most Teenage Fanclub records have been
over the years, this has to be their best album from beginning to end.
Sort of like Big Star in the 70's, Teenage Fanclub brought us amazing
jangly pop tunes, but were virtually overlooked in their time; certainly
here in the states. Even though all my friends and I were great fans,
the most publicized piece in their history is unfortunately Gene Simmons
of Kiss suing the group for using a money bag logo on the front of this
album. (Apparently a logo that he owns the trademark for.) Geffen Records
did eventually pay him off, and the record still has its famed pink
and yellow money bag cover. It was released on Geffen here in the states,
but in the U.K., this is yet another classic Creation Records Product.
Obviously it's one of many, but certainly up there when you have to
consider some of the greatest Creation Records of all-time. They are
also another Creation band that played so loud in concert it almost
broke your eardrums. So loud in fact that they even tripped the breakers
switches at the famed Liberty Lunch, TWICE! I can remember the club
owner turning to me to say, "Breaker trips rarely happen here,
and god they are so loud." Also
this album was released in
one of the best and most formative years of my life: 1991. It was released
about the time I first fell in love, and coincidently about the same
time Orlando and I started our long friendship that still stands today.
"She wears denim wherever she goes, says she's gonna get some records
by the Status Quo, oh yeah".
