30) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Frank
Black-'Teenager of the Year'
Now this one is a 90's classic. I think I didn't
even hear this album until about two months after it came out. I was
still a little pissed off about my favorite band splitting apart, and
I was pretty disappointed with his first solo album all in all. So I
chose to let this stew for a while. Well, when I did finally get a copy
of tonight's "Mid-Morning Recording", I was surely not disappointed.
This album has some of the best songs Frank Black ever penned. A double
album just packed with some of his best hooks. Sadly, he really hasn't
made an album since that reaches this height, but he is Black Francis,
Frank Blank, maybe even Chuck to his friends; and even though he could
possibly do wrong, he never does. He has never put out anything that
wasn't worth the listen, and he really is one of the greatest tunes
men to ever walk the planet; on this album, he shines the brightest.
Also, with the title of the album, I figured this would be a good record
to bring out here at the beginning of the year, but also because this
album has been sitting in my "possible MMR" list for a little
while now. It's also perfect timing, as I had someone tell me at a New
Year's party the other night that they thought this album was better
than any album released by Pixies. As then and now, I have to disagree
with that personal opinion, but I do believe this is the best collection
of songs Mr. Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson the IV has put out since
'Trompe Le Monde'. Maybe somewhere he's listening to 'Surfin' Bird"
by the Trashmen...I think that is his all-time favorite song. I like
it too! Papa-ooo-maw-maw. "I got me so down I got me a headache.
My heart is crammed in my cranium and it still knows how to pound."
Michael-"MFL
31) James-"Sayonara" From the CD 'Wah-Wah'.
