An overlooked Alan Parker film, and an overlooked Peter Gabriel album. It's one of my personal favorites from his catalog. It's a soundtrack that revisits his previously songs, but in a more subdued manner. I played this tonight because Peter just came through the state with The New Blood Orchestra which is another revisit to his older tunes, but with a large orchestra. Some friends of mine went to see him, and they said he was awesome. It might have been nice to see him again, but I doubt his show was as subdued as this album. Personally I feel he is at his best when he takes a melancholic tone. This soundtrack certainly reflects his atmospheric tone, but that is most likely due to the presence of Daniel Lanois, who records here with Peter for the first time. One of my fathers favorite movies....he even has the one sheet. "BIRDY!"
