The first time I heard Another Fine Day was on an amazing compilation called "Ambient-Dub Volume 3 - Aqua" put out by Beyond Records in the UK. (I found out years later that it was the very first release from the group.) Upon looking at the liner notes of the compilation, I noticed the names T. Green and H. Vickers looked familiar. Sure enough, I had seen their names before on the debut release from the Ambient-House pioneers The Orb. Tom Green and Hugh Vickers co-wrote "Star 6 & 7 8 9" for that amazing record and lucky for us Tom Green would stay in the fold of The Orb winding up writing material with them for at least four of their albums. After the Aqua compilation, Tom set his sights to create a whole album under the moniker Another Fine Day. Tonight's MMR is that product. The very first release from Tom Green's solo project. He has since released other albums under this name, a lot of them as soundtrack pieces, but this album is considered his Ambient-Dub masterpiece. In 2004, he remastered and re-released the album on his own label since the original pressing was long out of print. He continues to work in atmospherics creating eclectic scores for various films and television programs. I talk to Tom on Facebook every once in awhile, and I will have to say that aside from being a wonderful musician, he is a very genuine and sincere person. At our request he took part in an amazingly atmospheric episode of "The 180" back in March of 2013. (Check it out at The 180 page here. (Browse to March of 2013)) He tells me that he is thinking of making more music under the guise Another Fine Day for 2014, but we will have to wait to find out. Here's to hoping that he does.
