30) "The Mid-Morning Recording"     Talking Heads-'The Name of This Band is Talking Heads' (CD Version)
Since Talking Heads will be in the same room for the first time in 21 years for a Q&A session celebrating the re-release of the Jonathan Demme concert documentation of their groundbreaking "Stop Making Sense" tour, I thought we should play some of their live material to celebrate. We have already played the full DVD soundtrack for the film as a Mid-Morning Recording, and because the newly released full soundtrack hasn't reached my door as of yet, I thought it best to play their first live album, 'The Name of This Band is Talking Heads'. The album documents the earlier live work from the band's first couple of tours, and was first released on Sire Records in 1982. The album was re-released in 2004 on CD for the first time, doubling the content of the original vinyl and cassette releases. The CD's are packed with data timing out to 88 minutes a disc; over two and a half hours of early live performances. Disc one is mostly the band recorded as a quartet, compiling shows performed from 1977-1979. The second disc features recordings from various venues, but the second disc tracklist mirrors a full setlist from the "Remain In Light" tour of 1980 and 1981 featuring the larger band with Adrian Belew on guitars, Bernie Worrell on keys, Steve Scales on percussion, Busta "Cherry" Jones on an additional bass, along with backup singers Nona Hendryx and Dolette McDonald. The tour laying the groundwork for the following tour documented as possibly the greatest concert film ever "Stop Making Sense". Some fans like this album more than "Stop Making Sense". I can't say that, but it is an amazing album and a great document of their early live work. It's worth the admission for the track "A Clean Break (Let's Work)", which was never on any studio album. It's really an insanely amazing song, and only live versions of it exists. Maybe they tried to make it work in the studio, but maybe the energy of the song just works better live. They were one of the most talented bands to make music. I'm glad they are on speaking terms again, and I'm looking forward to seeing them perform in IMAX. "The name of this song is 'New Feeling', and that's what it's about." - Michael - MFL
31) James-"Sayonara" From the album 'Wah-Wah'.
