This week the world lost Shane McGowen, the singer and songwriter for the Irish Celtic-Punk band The Pogues. It was with this album that I first heard the band, and also the late great Kirsty Maccoll. I hadn't heard it in a little while, and thought it should be played in honor of the man who wrote possibly the greatest Christmas song ever. The album is much more than just "Fairytale of New York", but of course the piece is legendary. It's one of a few tracks that we play every year on our holiday broadcast.
