31) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Pink Floyd-'The Division Bell'
In honor of the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd, MFL is playing a Pink Floyd MMR all month, and since I've never played this particular album before, I'm starting with the second to last Pink Floyd studio album. All this week, BBC6 has been looking back at music released in 1994. This made me look back and discover that this was my favorite album of 1994. There were so many great album releases that year, but getting new music from Pink Floyd, and getting to see them in concert twice was certainly a highlight of 1994 for me. This album reminds me of my younger 20's, and what it was like to first hear an album premiered on the radio, before the days of the internet. I recorded the premiere of this album from the radio onto cassette tape, and I listened to it for five days straight as Pink Floyd played in San Antonio just five days later. The album was released in the U.S. the day after their performance in S.A., only the second date of their World Tour. Two weeks later a big group of us would drive to Dallas to see them again, for the final time. I think Pink Floyd will always be my personal favorite band, and I'm so glad that I did see them three times, and got to see Roger Waters perform a solo show years later. Even though Roger isn't on this album, it still sounds like a Pink Floyd album to me. The album cover is certainly very "Floyd", with an inventive and original design by the great Storm Thorgerson. So many great artists on the album, as a Pink Floyd album should be. "All we need to do is make sure we keep talking." Michael - MFL
