30) "The Mid-Morning Recording" David Byrne-'American Utopia on Broadway (Original Cast Recording)'
One thing I was thinking of doing before this pandemic started was trying to get to New York City to see if I could see David Byrne on his second run on Broadway. He was, and maybe still is, planning to make another run of his groundbreaking show 'American Utopia' in the autumn and winter of 2020/2021. I was lucky enough to have seen this show twice in one week. Once in San Antonio at the Tobin Center with my friend Jonathan Stevens, who was extremely nice enough to give me a ticket, and once more a couple of days later, in the daytime, at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Both shows were terrific, but of course it worked better in the controlled darkened environment of the concert hall. The show's technical achievements are certainly groundbreaking. Watching it, I was trying to figure out how it was all done wirelessly. I have since seen many different videos about the production, and it is not surprising that the technology involved with it had to be invented in order to make it work as a touring show. I can only imagine what this show is like in a Broadway theater, where everything is planned, tweaked, and tested beforehand. Here's hoping Broadway will come back strong, and here's hoping that more people get to witness this 'utopia' of a stage show. Like "Stop Making Sense" before it, this show is a grand spectacle of musicianship and character, and it is certainly one of most creative concert experiences I've ever had. I hope Spike Lee is doing the film, like the rumors say. "Everybody's coming to my house. Everybody's coming to my house. I'm never gonna be alone, and I'm never gonna go back home." - Michael - MFL
31) James-"Sayonara" From the album 'Wah-Wah'.
