28) "The Mid-Morning Recording" Fleetwood Mac-'Greatest Hits' (Red Sleeve 1971)
Any longtime listener of the program knows that I do love me some Fleetwood Mac. I like pretty much every album they released throughout their whole existence. A lot of people hear Fleetwood Mac and think Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, and a lot more don't even know that the band existed for almost seven years before that duo joined the band. From 1967 to 1970, the band was pretty much known as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, and the first three studio albums were fronted and largely composed by Peter. They were a straight up blues band coming out of the project of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. A couple of weeks ago, we lost Peter Green. One of the greatest guitarists of all-time. B.B. King once said that Peter gave him cold sweats because Peter was so good. B.B. also claimed that he knew "that the white man had learned the blues", when he first saw Peter play. We had already played the Mac classic "Then Play On" as a MMR, so I went looking for an early compilation of their work with Peter, and came across this 1971 UK Greatest Hits release compiling the "hits" made during Peter's time with the band. All the hits are here, including the original versions of "The Green Manalishi", "Black Magic Woman", (a song that Carlos Santana made into a hit), "Man of the World", "Oh Well", and the band's only #1 chart topper, "Albatross". A song that happens to be my favorite tune in all of their catalog. It's surprising that "Albatross" was the only Mac song that would top the singles chart, in all of their successes that would follow them. I've seen Fleetwood Mac three times in my life, but I never got a chance to see Peter play live. He will be missed. A master of the blues. Rest In Peace - Peter Green (1946-2020) "Don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to. Oh well." - Michael-MFL
29) James-"Sayonara" From the album 'Wah-Wah'.
